Frequently asked questions

Where does the data come from?

From the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) via the Open-Meteo API. These are modelled estimates and forecasts, not readings from a physical sensor at your exact location. Validated against real ground stations, the model tracks measured PM2.5 to within about 2.5 µg/m³.

How is the 7-day forecast made?

A machine-learning model trained on 5.5 years of historical data for each city predicts the daily Air Quality Index up to seven days ahead. Forecast values are clearly labelled as predictions, separate from current readings.

Do I have to share my location?

No. Location is optional and used only on your device to pick the nearest city. You can always choose a city manually instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. If you lose connection, Aer shows the most recent readings it has, always clearly labelled as cached so you know what you're looking at.

What languages are supported?

English, Macedonian, and Albanian.

Is Aer medical advice?

No. Aer provides general, informational health guidance based on air quality. It is not medical advice. If you have a medical condition, please follow your doctor's guidance.
